Projects in the Pipeline

E-mail Print PDF
The Malta Handball Association is working hard to develop handball in Malta. One of the main developments is the set up of a new club, namely Phoenix Handball Club, under the guidance of Orlando Bonnici. There are more projects in the pipe line and when these projects come to life, we hope the handball community increases and that other sectors benefit from our work, especially Physical Education teachers and those who are in need.

One should not forget that this season saw the creation of an U/17 girls league contested by four teams. It should also be highlighted that while only one team actually represents a club, the other three represent a  girls secondary school, namely St.Joseph, St. Benedict College Girls Junior Lyceum and St.Theresa Girls Junior Lyceum.

Intriguing Season comes to an end

The Handball season  came to an end last Saturday with the K.O Finals. It was a season full of surprises and hard work for both clubs and association. The season opened with the Super Cup contested between Aloysians and La Salle in both men and women categories. La Salle had a great start winning in both the men and the women Super Cup. The MHA Cup followed with La Salle and Aloysians wanting to confirm their superiority. Luxol and Kavallieri had other thoughts and though the honors were shared once again between La Salle in the men category and Aloysians in the women group, Luxol and Kavallieri made them sweat to take the honors.

In October the Men Senior National Team came second in the Challenge Trophy held in Malta. It was a big achievement for Maltese handball in both the playing and the organisational aspect. Malta won plaudits from fellow European countries for the organisation.

Soon after the MHA League started with Aloysians and La Salle the main contenders. In both sections, Kavallieri and Luxol foiled one of the contender's plans. In the women section, Aloysians suffered a loss each against Kavallieri and Luxol, handing the title to La Salle and in the men section, the same surprise was bestowed to La Salle, with Aloysians winning the title. In May the girls participated in the EHF Challenge Trophy in Israel, finishing fourth after brave performances.

The season came to an end with the APS Century K.O. contended by Aloysians and Luxol in the women category and La Salle and Luxol in the men K.O. Aloysians were worthy winners of the women K.O while after a balanced game, Luxol won the K.O Men final.
